Ferguson vs Tompkins

This fight only lasted 40 seconds of the first round, but it was a long 40 seconds for Tompkins who tapped due to an armbar, but did not tap soon enough to save him from having his arm broken! Another fierce performance by Josh “taz” Ferguson to be sure!

Walker vs Jones

Ryan Jones was ready to fight, he came out and wasted no time in securing a quick 44 second submission due to a leg lock.

Sawyer vs Christison

Derrick Sawyer, representing Louisville MMA, took this fight on short notice. His coach said he had a game plan that might just work, but only if things happened the way they planned. It only took 42 seconds of the first round for the plan to fall apart. Despite Sawyer’s planning and fortitude, Dan Christison, of UFC fame, was just too much for the Louisville fighter to handle. Sawyer tapped due to a nasty knee lock that appeared to dislocate Sawyer’s knee. In a show of true sportsmanship, Christison helped Sawyer from the ring.

Smith vs Moppin

Smith won this fight by judges decision, but Moppin never gave up and was able to defend to the decision despite giving up full mount to Smith for over 2 minutes

Troyer vs Crawford

In one the first RFL title fight, it took only 3 muinutes for Troyer to earn his belt. Crawford gave it all he had but was simply not able to overcome the ground and pound game of Troyer. Coach Mike Yanez, made the right call and threw in the towel in round one to save his fighter from suffering an injury similar to the one he had recovered from before this fight. Crawford is a gifted young fighter and we have probably not seen the last of him. Troyer will provide a difficult challenge for whoever tries for this belt.

Heink vs Bayer

Heink came out fighting like the Tasmanian Devil, but team mate Josh Ferguson already has that moniker sewed up. In 38 seconds Heink had his first RFL win due to rear naked choke.

Florez vs Cook

Florez was another fighter who had taken a short notice fight. Prior to the match he had mentioned that this had been a difficult weight cut due to the short notice, but he felt that he was not too depleted to fight. Timmy Cook was itching for a fight and he did not care who he faced. Florez came in slightly heavy at weigh-ins, but Cook gamely offered to fight him anyway. Cook came out guns-a-blazin’ and seemed to have caught Florez off-guard. Florez’s experienced showed however as he weathered the inistial onslaught and managed to submit Cook.

Spiritwolf vs Bailey

Shamar Bailey is strong. And fast. In the second RFL title fight, Bailey went the distance for a judge’s decision that he made fairly easy for the judges. Other than a brief period during round two where Bailey took some solid knees that almost dropped him this fight was dominated by Bailey with a ground and pound game that was seemingly unstoppable. Bailey’s title defense against Roger Bowling should be good for some serious fireworks!
